2018 Under 25 League is Underway
On Wednesday 30 May, the 2018 The Westmorland County FA Uunder 25 Summer League kicked off with two close fought entertaining games.
In the first fixture of the night Kendal United faced an Endmoor side who fielded numerous younger players and battled very well throughout. Kendal United created lots of opportunities in the first half and opened the scoring when Matt Kennedy turned and finished. Kendal United missing clear chances through Danny Craig and Bailey Carlos. Endmoor kept in the game and rallied late to put pressure on Kendal’s goal but couldn’t find an equaliser.
The second game of the night was probably the most entertaining Under 25 game in its 5 years.
Last year’s runners up Ibis faced Milnthorpe Corinthians who were entering for their second time. It was Corinthians who started the quicker and raced into a two goal lead in the opening two minutes.
Will Booth dispatched both penalties calmly to give Corinthians what seemed a comfortable lead. This spurred Ibis on and they replied through a Shaun Askew header. Shortly after Ibis striker Josh Ford finished to even the game up at 2-2. The brilliant comeback was complete when Dan Jones rifled home. The goals weren’t finished their as a fortuitous own goal extended Ibis lead to 4-2 within the first 25 minutes!
The second half and both teams improved defensively. Corinthians saw more of the ball and claimed a goal back when Harry Jackson scored. Corinthians piled forward to find an equaliser but with time running out Ibis sealed an opening evening victory.
