Girls PDP U14 Fixture
On Saturday 16 February 2019, Westmorland Girls PDP U14 travelled to Southport to take on Southport Hesketh Colts. Within 20 seconds, Westmorland found themselves 1-0 up with Keira capitalizing on a defensive error to calmly slot home to the Keepers' left.
Hesketh soon found their rhythm and began to look dangerous on the counter attack. Bethan in the Westmorland goal had to be alert on a couple of occasions, thwarting the host's early on with two smart blocks.
Westmorland's high-pressing game began to reap its rewards. Evie, Aimee, Chloe and Keira all having chances to double the lead. It would be Emma that doubled the lead. Some good link up play with Lydia saw Emma skip past a couple of challenges, to score from a tight angle.
Westmorland began to look for a third before Half-Time. A great challenge by Eimear saw the ball spill to Aimee, who managed to rattle the Hesketh crossbar with a great left foot strike.
A third goal came just before the break as the dangerous Keira doubled her tally to make the score 3-0 at the interval.
Half Time: Southport Hesketh Colts 0-3 Westmorland PDP U14
The second half was always going to be different, with Westmorland playing against the wind. Hesketh's intricate pass and move game was beginning to look more dangerous. Isla and Mia in defence were outstanding, breaking up play on numerous occasions. At the other end, Westmorland began to find more joy down the wings. Chloe and Aimee were always looking to whip in crosses early. It was from a cross from Aimee that would prove to be Westmorland's best chance of the half. Put in at pace, her cross evaded everyone, only to strike the crossbar again.
Further chances would follow, with Evie, Aimee, Keira and Chloe all coming close, with Eimear, Lydia and Emma being the architects of those opportunities with creative link up play from midfield.
As the clock ticked down, and to their credit, Hesketh scored a consolation goal to which their style of football deserved. A vicious strike taking a deflection to leave Bethan with little chance.
A great game of Football was played at Meols Cop Playing Fields. A credit to both sides.
